Helena Urban Sketchers

We are a local community that gathers to sketch on-location and post their sketches online. Traditional artists use the term plein-aire for sketching outdoors. As urban sketchers, we use the term on-location. We are welcoming of any new members and will be welcoming of visitors, out-of-town guests, and non-sketching family or friends who decide to tag along.

We meet in Downtown Helena every month. Be sure to check our Facebook @helenaurbansketchers for the month's meeting location and a place to post your own work, and our Instagram @helenaurbansketchers for sketching prompts, inspiration and re-posts of your art!

June: The park across from the Civic Center

We're founded on the idea of people meeting in person to sketch and share sketches online. Our Facebook (link below) is free to join, and you’re HIGHLY encouraged to join us and post work to the group.

We are not a private club. We're an open, free, community group that provides opportunities for members of the public regardless of age, race, gender or skill level to practice on-location sketching. Members do not need to apply to join.

While we're a local group, there is room to grow! If you are interested in further education, Urban Sketchers, often has workshops and international meetings and trips.
