Custom Framing Designer & Events/Class Coordinator

Every employee is a framer. Over 60% of the business of this store is work relating to the frame shop.

Seasonally and in down-time, we all have a “side quest” part of our job, and for this position, we’re looking for a highly organized individual with a passion for local art events, classes, and loves coordinating with other community pillars to create teaching and learning opportunities for artists and students in Helena.


Queen City Framing & Art Supplies requires the designer to possess/be trained to develop:

  • An understanding of proper framing techniques & components that create a quality preservation-grade product.
  • An understanding of the basic rules of frame design, and an ability to use them to create projects with proper balance, rhythm, and proportions.
  • An ability to understand the computer software system and the proper procedures used to record, process & distribute  information. No AI tools will be used.
  • A willingness to attend company events and training sessions, including conferences and exhibitions out of state.
  • Basic math skills including the ability to read a measuring tape, add and subtract fractions, and convert fractions to decimals.
  • The ability to operate out POS system/cash register; count money, count back the correct change, accurately input credit card and account information.
  • Attention to detail concerning data entry, spelling of clients’ names and communication of detail in order taking.
  • Must be comfortable with being given tasks, and independently scheduling it into their own work without supervision.
  • An ability to work as a team member. This includes the ability to communicate respectfully and accept responsibility, and to be accountable to other team members. 
  • Ability to cross-train among other positions after fully trained, to help cover the basics when staff members go on leave or vacation.
  • An ability to contribute to the growth of the company’s creativity level. This includes developing & exploring new creative design ideas & helping to market them to our client base.
  • An ability to stay current on industry trends in product and design by reading periodicals and participating in team education sessions.
  • An understanding of art supplies and products, including different mediums and the requisite substrates for each, supplies and methods for different techniques.
  • Physical requirements of transporting objects of at least 20 lbs., and occasionally more. Use a step ladder to stock and retrieve products 10-15ft off the ground.

A staff member will assist in training and will be evaluated on a probationary basis for the first 6 months, with the option to extend to 12 months. Training for the design counter can take six months to a year and a half.
